Meredith, Goehr and Matthews: Chamber Works — UK music’s past, present and future

Pieces by three living composers showcase the remarkable range of contemporary British classical.

‘The last of the three, Colin Matthews’s Postludes (2018), is a deeper, more developed piece. An octet, mostly for strings, it is dedicated to composer and conductor Oliver Knussen, who died earlier that year, and has an expressively elegiac nature. There is some virtuoso writing here, especially a dazzling part for oboist Nicholas Daniel, and members of the Britten Sinfonia shine.’
