SUMMARY:Chamber Connections Masterclass with Nicholas Daniel
DESCRIPTION:Nicholas Daniel returns to Snape Maltings for this dynamic public masterclass with some of the finest emerging chamber ensembles from across the UK and Europe. \nThis forms part of our week of intensive tuition and mentoring for chamber ensembles by some of the world’s best chamber musicians. This masterclass will feature some of the international cohort of emerging ensembles in our 2022-23 Britten Pears Young Artist Programme. \nNicholas Daniel has long been acknowledged as one of the world’s great oboe players\, and is one of Britain’s best known musicians. In a distinguished career that began more than four decades ago he has become an important ambassador in many different musical fields\, and has significantly enlarged the repertoire for his instrument with the commissioning of hundreds of new works. He has been a concerto soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors\, performing a huge range of repertoire from Bach to Xenakis and is an internationally renowned chamber musician and conductor. \nWe are grateful to the H Steven & P E Wood Charitable Trust and Idlewild Trust for their support toward Chamber Connections.

SUMMARY:Serenity - Nicholas Daniel and the Ulster Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Sibelius – Symphony No. 7\nR. Strauss – Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra\nBrahms – Symphony No. 2 \nNICHOLAS DANIEL\, oboe\nDANIELE RUSTIONI\, conductor\nUlster Orchestra \nVery few composers manage to evoke the landscape of their homeland in the way that seems to come so effortlessly to Sibelius – it’s difficult to listen to his Seventh Symphony without imagining yourself in the epic forests and below the vast skies of the Finnish landscape. \nRichard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto makes the most of the pastoral qualities of the solo instrument\, keeping us outdoors. And the pastoral mood continues with Brahms’s cheerful\, soaring Second Symphony. Brahms himself wrote in the symphony’s manuscript “Es liebt sich so lieblich im Lenze!” (“It’s so lovely to be in love in the springtime!”)\, and this concert looks forward to those days to come.
